Deforestation is a consequence of over-exploitation of forests for space, energy and materials. There are several reasons for such an extensive deforestation.

Governments often distribute land under forest to landless people, instead of redistributing already established farmlands.

The ever-rising human population and their necessities have forced farmers to go up to mountain slopes for cultivation.
