AGRICULTURE

Agriculture not only includes subsistence agriculture for meeting the requirements of family but also includes commercial intensive farming, which is an agriculture production system marked by high use of inputs like pesticides and fertilizers. Intensive farming has greatly contributed in increase productivity.
Producing more food on less land is also an important way of protecting biodiversity by saving large areas of forests, grasslands and wetlands. Agriculture has played important role in development, as:
World grain production almost tripled and the per capital grain production rose by about 36 % between 1950 and 1990;
The relative per capita food production in most parts of world increase between 196 and 2002.
A surprising large percentage of world’s land area is under agriculture; approximately 11% of the total lands area of the world excluding Antarctica, is enough to make agriculture a human induced bio me. The greater food production can help to overcome the problem of malnutrition. This would in turn make people healthy and fit to work better for raising their living standards
