CHANGING PATTERNS OF LANDS USE

The natural world is everywhere disappearing before our eyes-cut to pieces, mowed down, ploughed under, gobbled up, replaced by human artifacts.’’ In terms of land use, human have taken over, disturbed and degraded 40 to 50% of earth’s land surface, especially by filling in wetlands and converting grasslands and forest to crop fields and urban areas. Forests have been cleared for constructing roads, railways, dams, industries and housing complexes all of which have increasingly become important with growing human population. But land being a limited resource cannot be expanded according to the need of the people. The only solution is to change the already existing pattern of land use.
